Sasha’s reflections on The Talking, Thinking, Dancing Body/Calgary’s 1st event last week

The Talking Thinking Dancing Body is an educational and sharing platform for those interested in examining the dancing body from an intersectional feminist lens. This means with consideration to the complex and cumulative manner in which the effect of different forms of discrimination combine and intersect. While this may seem like a political discussion, and it is, it is also an artistic and ethical discussion. The body is dance’s purview. Given that choreography is defined as the organization of the body in space and time, choreographers must consider how they are organizing who. My cohost for this series Pam Tzeng and I would like to thank everyone who came out last week. It was an inspiring start to the conversation series and we are grateful to have received this feedback from a participant:

“I am compelled to attend TTBD as an emerging artist because I am on the path to understanding my voice, how I engage with critical dialogue, and how I relate to my community.  This is a place that I can engage in important conversations in the flesh instead of alone in my bedroom.”

Support the Continued Development of Contemporary Dance in Alberta through Membership or Donation

2018-2019 is an exciting year, having embarked on a new chapter with Artistic Director Sasha Ivanochko. A strong membership core for the organization is vital as it indicates to us, our funders and to other organizations that our mission and our programming are supported by our community. If you haven’t already done so, please become or renew your membership before the holiday season begins. Annual individual membership is free. Annual organizational membership is $100.

We need to raise funds to increase our operational stability, to update the technology we use and to increase the fees paid to our artists. We need your support. All gifts are welcome be it a monthly pledge of $10, a single donation of $25 or a much larger gift.
